BODY UNDER CROHN'S DISEASE
Crohn’s disease is a lifelong inflammatory gastrointestinal tract disease with no current cure. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, fever, and tiredness. Alteration to bacteria in gut is somehow involved in initiating the disease. However, the details are not fully understood on how the bacteria or host immune system responds. Dr. Coombes’ lab is studying the influence of adherent-invasive E. coli (AIEC) in Crohn’s disease and how the host responds to AIEC colonies.
